India followed the same pattern in their second game of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 as they did in the first. After their top order failed, the lower order delivered a fightback with the bat to take them to a respectable total before the bowlers executed yet another disciplined performance to help the Women in Blue win the game by 88 runs and jump to the top of the points table with four points, replacing Australia. India also extended their unbeaten run against Pakistan in WODIs to 12 matches.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. However, it was the Women in Blue who got off to a good start with the openers scoring runs at will. They added 48 runs for the first wicket before Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana trapped Smriti Mandhana (23) in front of the wicket to give her team the first breakthrough. Pratika Rawal (31) stood for some time but eventually failed to convert the start and lost her wicket to Sadia Iqbal.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s rough patch with the bat continued as she was dismissed for 19 by Diana Baig. Meanwhile, Harleen Deol, who missed her half-century by two runs against Sri Lanka, missed out by four runs today vs Pakistan after losing her wicket to Rameen Shamim on 46.
Jemimah Rodrigues (32) was the next batter to depart after getting trapped in front of the wicket by Nashra Sandhu. Skipper Fatima Sana removed Sneh Rana (20) in the 45th over just after the all-rounder started to open her arms. Deepti Sharma (25) followed suit and lost her wicket to Diana Baig in the very next over.
Shree Charani (1) was then removed by Sadia Iqbal before Diana Baig removed Jarmanjot Goud (8) and Renuka Singh (0) on back-to-back deliveries to bundle the Women in Blue out. However, Richa Ghosh, with an unbeaten 35-run innings off 20 balls, ensured that India finished the innings with a challenging total of 247 on the board.
In reply, Pakistan lost their first wicket early after Muneeba Ali (2) was run out by Deepti Sharma. Her opening partner Sadaf Shamas (6) also couldn’t do much and lost her wicket to Karanti Goud, who then removed Aliya Riaz (2) as Pakistan found themselves on the back foot early.
Natalia Pervaiz and Sidra Amin then got Pakistan out of trouble by stitching a much-needed half-century stand for the fourth wicket to stabilise the chase. The partnership finally came to an end on 69 when Karanti Goud removed Natalia Pervaiz (33). Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana (2) then lost her wicket to Deepti Sharma as India made their way back into the match.
Sidra Nawaz (14) then added 41 runs for the sixth wicket with Sidra Amin before losing her wicket to Sneh Rana. Deepti Sharma removed Rameen Shamim (0) as pressure continued to mount on Pakistan. However, the biggest blow to their hopes came in the 40th over when Sneh Rana removed Sidra Amin (81). Diana Baig (9) then ran herself out before Deepti got the wicket of Sadia Iqbal (0) to bundle Pakistan out for 159, handing India a big 88-run victory.
