As a part of the nationwide mock drill on Wednesday, some areas across Lutyens' Delhi will witness a power blackout from 8-8:15 pm, the New Delhi Municipal Council said, as reported by PTI.

"All residents are requested to please cooperate and bear with the situation," an NDMC official said.

However, hospitals, dispensaries, Rashtrapati Bhawan, PMO, metro stations and other important establishments will be exempted from the blackout drill.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has directed several states to conduct civil defence mock drill to assess emergency preparedness and response capabilities.

The planned drills will feature mock simulations, air raid sirens, procedures for evacuation, and campaigns to generate awareness in order to prepare the public for potential conflict situations. These drills will help in evaluating how both civilians and government systems respond to emergencies such as missile strikes, aerial attacks, or war-like scenarios.

Earlier in the day, mock drills were carried out at various public locations in Delhi, including King's Court in GK-2, Khan Market, DLF Capital Greens in Moti Nagar, and Sahyog Apartments in East Delhi. Similar drills were also conducted across various districts in India.

Operation Sindoor

The drill comes hours after India launched retaliatory action against the terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK), hitting nine targets, in the wake of Pahalgam terror attack. The operation saw the first strikes by Indian armed forces in Pakistan’s Punjab province since 1971.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the action eliminated those who targeted and killed innocent civilians.
