BSNL launches ₹1 4G 'freedom plan' with 1-month validity to attract users

State-run telecom firm BSNL on Friday rolled out 4G service plan offer for Re 1 with one month validity in an attempt to draw more customers. The company has recently completed rollout of its 4G network across India. "Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today (Friday) launched its much-anticipated 'Freedom Plan' -- a limited-period Re 1 offer that gives users to test BSNL's 4G mobile services for one full month. This initiative marks BSNL's celebration of India's Independence Day and offers citizens a chance to experience India's own indigenously developed 4G technology at no cost," the company said in a statement. The plan includes unlimited voice calls (local/STD), 2 GB high-speed data per day, 100 SMS/day and a free BSNL SIM. "With BSNL's 4G-designed, developed, and deployed under the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' mission -- we are proud to be putting India among a select group of nations that have built their own telecom stack. Our 'Freedom Plan' gives every Indian a chance to test and

CAG loss estimate on BSNL-RJIL deal misread, correction done: MoS Telecom

The Comptroller and Auditor General of India estimates on losses to BSNL from Reliance Jio Infocomm was based on the misinterpretation of a clause on add-on technology, and it has been rectified in a transparent and equitable manner, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. The CAG report tabled in Parliament in April had said the government suffered a loss of Rs 1,757.56 crore as state-owned telecom firm BSNL failed to bill Reliance Jio for 10 years since May 2014 as per their agreement on passive infrastructure sharing. "BSNL has Master Service Agreements (MSAs) with M/s RJIL, for leasing of BSNL's tower infrastructure to install their equipment. There is no revenue loss to BSNL and government. The estimate of CAG was based on the misinterpretation of the clause of add-on technology, which has now been rectified in a transparent and equitable manner. BSNL has since raised the revised invoices from RJIL," Minister of State for Telecom, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said in the Lok Sabha in

Tejas Networks Q1 results: Weak demand leads to ₹194 cr consolidated loss

Domestic telecom gear maker Tejas Networks posted a consolidated loss of Rs 193.87 crore in the first quarter ended June 2025, mainly due to a decline in sales, the company filing said on Monday. The company, which supplied 4G gears to state-owned BSNL, had posted a profit of Rs 77.48 crore a year ago. The consolidated revenue of Tejas Networks plunged about 87 per cent to Rs 202 crore during the reported quarter from Rs 1,563 crore in the June 2024 quarter. "We won orders for our routers for Bharatnet Phase 3 and optical equipment from private operators in India. Our shortfall in revenue was due to delays in the receipt of a few purchase orders, including the expansion order from BSNL," Tejas Networks COO Arnob Roy said in a statement. Tejas Networks chief financial officer Sumit Dhingra said a net loss of Rs 194 crore was largely due to lower revenue. "We ended the quarter with an order book of Rs 1,241 crore, representing a quarter-over-quarter growth of 22 per cent. With the a

Panel okays land transfer of BSNL, MTNL, ITI to govt bodies without auction

A high-level committee has outlined the framework for the transfer of surplus land and buildings of telecom PSUs BSNL, MTNL and ITI to central government organisations without auction. The proposal was cleared at a meeting of Committee of Secretaries in June, which also decided that any central government organisation keen on acquiring any such property would be required to submit their interest, along with stipulated approvals and a deposit (2 per cent earnest money deposit) of the indicative value to register their claim. This process needs to be completed within 90 days from the notification of the asset on the asset monetisation website. Central government organisations will enjoy the right of first refusal, but after 90 days of notification, Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam and ITI will be free to dispose of the property to any other non-government buyer. "As per Government policy, surplus land/building assets of PSUs of DoT are being monetised...In a recent ...
