The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday claimed that it is set to earn approximately USD 10 million as profit by hosting the Champions Trophy, where the Indian team emerged champion. PCB spokesperson, Aamir Mir and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Javed Murtaza addressed media following reports that Board had suffered financial losses by hosting the ODI tournament and spending enormous amounts on upgrading stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi for the event. "All expenses for the tournament were covered by the ICC," Mir said adding that the PCB generated revenue through gate money and ticket sales. "Additionally, after the audit, we expect to receive another Rs 3 billion from the ICC," he added. He also claimed that PCB had initially targeted Rs 2 billion in earnings from the Champions Trophy, but they surpassed this goal. He also claimed that the PCB's total revenue for the 2023-24 fiscal year reached Rs 10 billiona 40% increase from the previous year. "With this financia

At least 11 people were detained after a late-night motorcycle rally to celebrate India's ICC Champions Trophy win led to violence in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district, police said on Monday. A group of people took out a motorcycle rally in Dehgam town after India won the Champions Trophy final match against New Zealand on Sunday night, an official said. As per the first information report, the rally was passing by a mosque in a minority-dominated area around 10.30 pm when some bikers raced their two-wheelers, blaring horns. It said around 15 persons sitting in the mosque for the ongoing Ramzan festival objected to this, hurling abuses and trying to attack the bikers with sticks when they fled. Deputy Superintendent of Police P N Vanda said, "Most bikers left after being attacked by persons objecting to the noise of the bike rally. Some five to six persons escaped after leaving their motorcycles behind. The accused persons damaged the two-wheelers that were left behind." "We have ...
In 2002, India were joint winners with Sri Lanka after the final was washed out. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India won their second Champions Trophy in 2013. Rohit & Virat were part of 2013 team
As his teammates basked in the glory of India's success in the Champions Trophy here on Sunday, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya remembered the heartbreak in the 2017 edition of the tournament. Back then India had lost to traditional rivals Pakistan in the final in England, where Hardik was part of the team. "Always amazing to win an ICC event. I remember 2017 very closely, couldn't finish that time. Very pleased to have done it here," Hardik, who contributed significantly to India's title triumph on Sunday, told the official broadcaster. Hardik was the lone ranger for India in the 2017 final as he smashed a 43-ball 76, but the knock could not prevent his team from suffering a heavy defeat. Set a target of 252 by New Zealand, India completed the task with four wickets and six balls to spare to win their third Champions Trophy title, after 2002 and 2013. The all-rounder was also full of praise for KL Rahul, another contributor to the team's triumphal march and who made an unbeaten 34
Moments after India sealed the Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli broke into an impromptu Dandiya' dance, holding the stumps. Head coach Gautam Gambhir walked around the field with a rare wide grin, hugging his wards. Those were not unusual scenes after such a resplendent night. Beyond the obvious, that footage carried a profound inner meaning for the troika. Few individuals in the last six months have been hounded as much as Gambhir, Rohit and Kohli after the team's largely ordinary run. While the criticism might have had some merit in it, the way it was directed at them was not justified. But now, they have a lifeline, a firmer ground to control their own destiny and a much clearer path to the future for the team. It came after wholehearted trust in the process that the management set in place before this event, as indicated by Rohit. "Someone was telling me that we've lost only one game in the last three ICC tournaments. So, it's a great milestone to have. So, it
New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner admitted that his Indian counterpart Rohit Sharma's exceptional knock was the difference between the two teams in the Champions Trophy final, and termed the four-wicket defeat as a "bittersweet end." Rohit made a fluent 76 off 83 balls as India chased down 252 in a close finish here on Sunday. "I think the way Rohit Sharma played kind of took it away from us, I think, obviously, India here understood the conditions in Dubai perfectly and played some good cricket. Yeah I guess it's kind of bittersweet at the end," said Santner in the post-match press conference. Santner said he was "proud" of his side despite the surrender in the title clash. "I think we came up against a good side in the final. We challenged at times throughout this game, which was pleasing and I think there were probably a couple of small moments where we let it get away from us. "But yeah, incredibly proud of this group the way we've kind of gone about it throughout this ...
KL Rahul is delighted after successfully migrating to No. 6 batting slot, and termed it as a result of his unrelenting preparation and improving his game constantly. Rahul, who usually bat No. 5, was pushed down a position lower in the Champions Trophy, and made 140 runs in four innings here. It's really pleasing for me. The work that I'm putting in to different roles requires a lot of preparation, work outside the cricket field, thinking about how I need to take each game and how I need to perform in different situations and watch some of the players that bat at 5, 6 and how they've been successful, said Rahul following India's Champions Trophy triumph on Sunday. Rahul said he was happy to take up that new responsibility for the team. I've been taught from a very early age by my coaches that cricket is a team game and whatever the team requires of you, you need to be able to accept that and find a way to put in performances for the team and understand what your role is, understand
Hardik Pandya was forced to take up new ball duties in the Champions Trophy in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, and the all-rounder said his natural fighting abilities helped him adjust to the new role. Pandya's job was minimal in the tournament though as India mainly operated with four spinners. He bowled just 24.3 overs across five matches taking four wickets. Bowling will take care of itself. The year was full of learnings and challenges. My mindset has never taught me to run away from challenges. I have always believed that if the challenges are tough, throw some punches. "If you don't leave the battlefield, then you have a chance, Pandya said during a mixed zone interaction after India's triumph in Champions Trophy. Pandya said he has been working behind the doors to eke out optimum performance from himself. I have always had confidence in myself that I can do it. And at the same time, the hard work that goes behind the doors, it pays off. I always believe that the way you pre

Clashes broke out in the Mhow town of Madhya Pradesh's Indore district on Sunday after a rally celebrating the Indian cricket team's ICC Champions Trophy final victory was allegedly pelted with stones, locals said. Indore collector Ashish Singh, when asked, said the situation was under control and forces had been deployed in the area. "How it happened will be ascertained later. As of now, the situation is under control," he said. The incident sparked panic in multiple areas of the town, with several vehicles torched, the locals said. A group of young cricket enthusiasts had organised a rally to celebrate India's final victory against New Zealand. However, as they approached the Jama Masjid area, a large group of individuals began hurling stones at them, leading to chaos and forcing them to abandon their motorcycles and flee, the locals said. In the aftermath, some people set fire to a number of the abandoned motorcycles, further escalating tensions, they said. Local authorities
