Mumbai Indians failed to register their first win in Ahmedabad as Gujarat Titans cruised to a 36-run victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium on the night.
Shubman Gill and co. showcased a well-balanced display with bat and ball, which got them their first points on the table as well. Mumbai are now without a win in their first 2 games as Hardik Pandya will feel the pressure now going into the next game.
They failed to chase down 197 as GT bowlers limited them to just 160/6 in their 20 overs. With Rohit Sharma departing in the first over courtesy of Siraj cleaning him up, it was Tilak Varma (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (48) who stitched up a 62-run partnership on the night to steady the ship for the visitors. However, wickets at regular intervals saw the 5-time winners fail to gather that momentum in the end.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans had set a 197-run target for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Shubhman Gill and Sai Kishore's brilliant start to the innings had set the stage for the hosts to set another good score on the board as the fans are set to witness another high scoring thriller on the night.
While Gill had to walk back on 38 runs, it was Sai Sudharshan and Jos Buttler who continued to bat valiantly as their 50-run partnership helped the Titans reach 196/7 in their 20 overs in the end. Cameos by Rutherford and Rashid Khan also proved crucial for the hosts to get close to 200 on the night.
Pandya took 2 wickets on his return while Boult, Chahar, Mujeeb and Raju got one scalp each on the night as well. GT 1st innings scorecard:
