MI vs DC live score: Suryakumar Yadav's resolute 73\* played a pivotal role in Mumbai Indians securing the fourth and final playoff spot, as they comfortably defeated Delhi Capitals by 59 runs in an IPL 2025 match on Wednesday.
Suryakumar's 43-ball innings, featuring seven fours and six sixes, helped MI post a strong total despite difficult conditions. Last season, the five-time champions had failed to qualify for the playoffs, but this year, they made no such mistake.
Delhi Capitals, who still had a chance to reach the top four, were undone by MI’s late surge. In the final two overs, Mumbai added 48 runs, shifting the momentum in their favor. Delhi, in contrast, put up a lackluster reply, with their top-order falling quickly during the powerplay, leaving the rest of their chase as a formality.
Chasing 181, DC were bundled out for just 121 in 18.2 overs, with Sameer Rizvi top-scoring with 39 runs. Mitchell Santner was the standout bowler for MI, taking 3 wickets for 11 runs in 4 overs, while Jasprit Bumrah also impressed with 3 wickets for 12 runs.
DC’s chase started badly, as stand-in skipper Faf du Plessis (6) and KL Rahul (11) fell early. Bumrah sent DC into disarray, dismissing Tristan Stubbs (2) as they struggled to recover. Santner removed Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma (18), effectively ending any hopes of a DC comeback.
Earlier, Suryakumar anchored MI’s innings despite a challenging pitch, where spinners Kuldeep Yadav (1/22) and Vipraj Nigam (0/25) exploited the slow surface. Suryakumar combined in two vital partnerships, first with Tilak Varma (55 runs for the fourth wicket) and later with Dhir, who struck 24 off 8 balls. Together, they added 57 runs in just 21 balls, with five sixes and four fours in the final overs to give MI a commanding total.
Though MI's batting had struggled earlier, especially with Rohit Sharma (5), Ryan Rickelton (25), and Will Jacks (21) all getting out after solid starts, the late flurry from Suryakumar and Dhir ensured MI posted a formidable total, securing their place in the playoffs.
