RCB vs SRH highlights: Impressive half-century from Ishan Kishan and brilliant bowling by Eshan Malinga help Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 42 runs in Match 65 of IPL 2025 at Lucknow
This loss means RCB now have to win their last match and hope that either GT or PBKS lose all their remaining games if they wish to qualify for Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025.
Earlier, RCB won the toss and elected to bowl first. SRH got off to a fiery start, adding 54 runs for the first wicket in just 24 balls before Abhishek Sharma (34) handed an easy catch to Phil Salt off Lungi Ngidi. His opening partner Travis Head (17) lost his wicket in the next over to Bhuvneshwar Kumar as RCB made a strong comeback in the match.
Heinrich Klaasen (24) looked in good touch but lost his wicket to Suyash Sharma in the ninth over. Similar to Klaasen, Aniket Verma (26) also failed to convert his good start and gave his wicket away to Krunal Pandya. Nitish Kumar Reddy (4) failed once again and lost his wicket to Romario Shepherd, who also removed Abhinav Manohar (12) in his next over to keep the match within reach for RCB. In the end, Ishan Kishan (94 not out) and Pat Cummins (13 not out) added more quick runs towards the end as SRH ended their innings with 231 for 6 on the board.
In reply, RCB got off to a brilliant start, adding 80 runs for the first wicket before Virat Kohli (43) lost his wicket to Harsh Dubey. Mayank Agarwal’s IPL return was short-lived as he was dismissed for 10 by Nitish Kumar Reddy. Meanwhile, Phil Salt (62) scored a fifty but eventually lost his wicket to Pat Cummins as SRH started to make a strong comeback in the match.
Eshan Malinga, in the same over, removed Rajat Patidar (18) and Romario Shepherd (0) to put SRH ahead in the contest. In the very next over, Jaydev Unadkat got the wicket of stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma (24) as things went from bad to worse for RCB. Tim David (1) also lost his wicket to Eshan as RCB’s hopes of victory crumbled.
In the 19th over, Pat Cummins got the wickets of Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3) and Krunal Pandya (8) to push RCB to the verge of being all out. Finally, on the second-last ball of the 20th over, Harshal Patel got Yash Dayal (3) caught out to bundle out RCB for 189 and hand SRH a 42-run victory.
